Timbra Caixa Malacachetas, Aluminum shell, 6 strings, 12"

Timbra caixa (malacachetas)

The Timbra caixas or malacachetas, are made of durable ultra aluminum. The aluminum is especially treated to prevent corrosion.

Timbra products are well made! They reinforce the aluminum shell to keep the shell from buckling and splitting at the seam welds.

Timbra designs the drum’s hardware (the rods, rims etc) to prevent vibration. So you don’t have those annoying little rattles and buzzes. Just pure drum and string sound!

The drum has 6 strings that are in groups of 2 across the drum head. You can quickly break a string by accidentally playing on the strings with your drum sticks. They eventually get bent out of shape and tweaked. But Timbra’s system of grouping the 6 strings into sets of 2 is nice because the strings take up less surface area of the drum head, making it less likely that you will break strings.

You can purchase new strings here.

It has six tuning rods and all the hardware is super shiny and chromed. Bling!

It comes has white plastic heads that are nice and thin. These thin plastic heads resonate with the strings to give you that authentic Brazilian samba sound!!!

The drum is  the classic caixa, malacacheta size with a 12 inches diameter head and 8 inches deep shell. A comfortable size to play down at your waist with a shoulder strap. For right handed people the strap is worn over the right shoulder and the drum is held at an angle in front of the body.  Shoulder straps can be found here.
