Caixa IVSOM, 6 strings, aluminum shell, 12" x 7.5"

Six string, aluminum body caixas are flying off the shelves! This Brazilian percussion instrument is one of the lighter weight caixas and has a little more buzzy sound than it’s sister drum, 4 string aluminum caixa.
These instruments are really classy and beautiful. The shell of the drum is shiny aluminum, and the hardware is a nice brassy color. Everybody can see that this is an IVSOM drum by the look.
Parades can feel very very long. However the aluminum shell reduces the overall weight of the drum. The last ½ mile of the parade and the last ½ hour of rehearsals just might feel a little shorter.
Typically a shoulder strap is used to carry this caixa while playing. The drum will hang at an angle while you play using “traditional grip”. Some of the drums manufactured in Asia, and are readily available in the US are too shallow and will flop forward on your body while playing. This drives me crazy. All of these IVSOM caixas are deep enough to keep this from happening.
You can also use this caixa to play “em cima” style, holding the drum up on your shoulder and upper arm. This technique requires you to employ a dorky little stick in your carrying hand and a regular stick in your other free hand.
You are a caixa player! You and your section cook up a swingy groove matrix that the rest of the bateria relies on to keep things together. And the butts in the crowd rely on to keep it hot and moving.
You will never grow out of this drum. A friend for life, partner in practice, co-conspirator in samba adventures, and a solid buddy in performances.
IVSOM puts extra thought and intention into his products. A machinist by training and a percussionist by passion he blends these skills to create high quality, well designed and well crafted instruments. You will not be disappointed with an IVSOM drum’s quality and standards. Plus they’re pretty!
