This drum is a couple of inches bigger in diameter than the 12" caixa vazada and is especially suited for playing caixa embaixo.
This drum is quite loud making it fantastic for teachers and strong players to hold the swing and pull other members along. This is my preferred drum for teaching situations.
This video shows a very common caixa embaixo pattern often referred to as "reta" as they play it at Beija Flor. This is Michel da Beija Flor playing!
Straps
Generally for Batucada style samba caixas are held on with a shoulder strap. This makes the drum hang at an angle in front of your body.Â
